Journeys End

Sorry, have to do this one in English, because I can’t really write about Doctor Who in any other language, and because everyone who watches it understands this anyway. And sorry again, but I have to write this right after having watched the season finale, so my thoughts are not exactly organized.

The spontaneous overall impression (completely subjective of course, and without having thought about it) is wow. That was one great blow-my-mind-style episode. I think I’ll have to watch it at least three times in a row before I can really express myself and don’t just sit there with my mouth open, unable to say anything. I’ll try to give some random comments, though, mixed with random favourite quotes.

Let’s start with Rose. When she kissed the other Doctor (Doctor 2.0, if you want), something in me screamed “Don’t, that is soooo wrong, the Doctor would never do that!”… but if you come to think about it, it’s brilliant. Rose didn’t really try to find the Doctor to go travelling through time and space with him again, but because she loves him. And the Doctor loves her too (no, I still won’t have it any other way!!), but she needs a Doctor who can express this love, who can love her like a human - and she found exactly that… a man, not a time lord. It’s like they wanted to make this difference very clear for all the Doctor-Rose shippers. Some would say the human version is better, others (like me) prefer the other one (please, does everything need saying!?). Plus she seemed to let go of the real Doctor, too, which is a good thing because now I don’t guess they’ll bring her back again, so this question is finally sorted. Everyone’s happy.

Well, not entirely happy. What was that shit about Donna? I mean, I loved the Doctor-Donna version of her because it seemed to combine all the best bits from both characters (fabulous acting, by the way!), and it was clear that this can’t go on forever, but she was my favourite companion, and now she’s… well, dead. Worse, really. Would’ve been too perfect, I guess.

Another part I really enjoyed was the “big family”. Call me pretentious, but I loved how they all worked together in the TARDIS. (By the way, did you notice the title sequence was totally crammed with names?) And it’s rubbish that the Doctor uses all his friends as weapons - he didn’t once tell them to come save him, did he? And we’ve seen the doctor-less world in episode 12, that’s not what I would call an improvement. I would’ve told Davros to button it.

There were certainly a lot of very Who-ish just-believe-this-and-don’t-ask-questions scenes, but that was predictable. Like, how did Mickey and Jacky manage to appear in the right place and time to save Sarah Jane? And since when can the Doctor wipe someone’s mind? I thought he couldn’t do more than just look about in there? That would give him an immense power he probably shouldn’t have. Oh, and Jack doesn’t just stay alive after he’s been killed, he normally wakes up panting for air. It seems like they have tried to squeeze a story of at least four episodes into two, expecting the fans to just accept this stuff.

Anyway, I still need some time to digest this… just about to watch the Confidential, maybe they’ll explain some more stuff in there. I guess we’ll have Torchwood with Martha and Mickey, which will be fun, so that’s something worth waiting for. :-)

“I didn’t need to change. I didn’t want to, why would I? Look at me.”

“It’s you!” - “Oh yes!” - “And you’re naked!” - “Oh yes!”
(honestly, what are you trying to do to me here?)

“I have only one life. I could spend it with you… if you want.”

“Three Doctors? I can’t tell you what I’m thinking now”
(probably thinking the same as me, and that would be really good! LOL.

Just my luck! I climb through two miles of ventilation shafts, tracking life signs on this thing, and who do I find?! Mickey Mouse!!”
“You can talk, Captain Cheesecake!”
“Good to see ya! And that’s Beefcake.”
“And that’s enough hugging…”

“No, wait, I’m part Time Lord, part human! Well, isn’t that wizard?!”
